Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC) are a major cause of diarrhoea worldwide. Due to their heterogeneity and carriage in healthy individuals, identification of diagnostic virulence markers for pathogenic strains has been difficult.
In this review, we describe the clinical significance of EAEC regarding patterns of infection in humans, transmission, reservoirs, and symptoms. Manifestations associated with EAEC infection include watery diarrhea, mucoid diarrhea, low-grade fever, nausea, tenesmus, and borborygmi.
4 maj 2020 · Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC) are emerging pathogens most commonly associated with acute and persistent paediatric diarrhoea and growth retardation in developing nations 1. In addition, EAEC...
15 wrz 2020 · The role of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) as a cause of diarrhea in cancer and immunocompromised patients is controversial. Quantitation of fecal bacterial loads has been proposed as a method to differentiate colonized from truly infected patients.
7 gru 2009 · Several effector proteins that are secreted by the type III secretion system of enteropathogenic, enterohaemorrhagic and enteroinvasive E. coli have been shown to hijack and manipulate host cell...
Infectious disease. Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC or EAggEC) are a pathotype of Escherichia coli which cause acute and chronic diarrhea in both the developed and developing world. [1][2] They may also cause urinary tract infections. [2] EAEC are defined by their "stacked-brick" pattern of adhesion to the human laryngeal epithelial ...
Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC) has been implicated as a common cause of acute and persistent diarrhea [1, 2] and as a cause of linear growth faltering among children in low-income countries [3]. The German outbreak of Shiga toxin (Stx)–producing O104:H4 EAEC highlights the epidemiologic and genomic plasticity of this pathotype [4].
