6 sty 2021 · I want to explore with you a greeting shared by the Zulu people of South Africa. It is agreeting spoken as an invocation in two parts. One part is Sikhona, which means “I amhere to be seen”; and the other part is Sawubona, which means “I see you.”
It literally means “I see you.” More than words of politeness, sawubona carries the importance of recognizing the worth and dignity of each person. It says, “I see the whole of you—your experiences, your passions, your pain, your strengths and weaknesses, and your future. You are valuable to me.”

However, in South Africa there is a beautiful greeting in isiZulu: “Sawubona”. It is the equivalent of our “hello”, but with a much deeper meaning. When Zulus greet each other with a “sawubona”, they are literally saying “I see you” or, to be more exact, “We see you”.
