8 sie 2023 · The Air Force announced 17.4 percent of those eligible are being promoted to staff sergeant in 2023, the lowest rate since 1996.
Competition for promotions to lieutenant colonel eased for much of the Air Force in 2024, driven by a smaller pool of majors considered. Across the six main “Line of the Air Force” categories, 1,258 officers were selected from 2,495 considered, a rate of 50.4 percent.
7 lip 2022 · The Air Force is expecting lower promotion rates for the next few years due to enlisted grade restructuring, a leveling-off of end-strength growth, and high retention levels. Based on structure revisions and end-strength requirements, grades E-5 through E-7 will be impacted.
