In this laboratory activity, a distance of 0.5 km between two points at particular location is chosen and a time for a vehicle passing through from first point to another point is recorded. The running speed is measured by dividing the distance passing through with the time taken.
The results provided speed statistics and trends to evaluate compliance with the speed limit and inform traffic decisions. This document is a lab report for a spot speed study conducted to analyze vehicle speeds on a highway.
4 Procedures • The study area was defined by selecting all control points before beginning the study. • The time periods recommended for studies are A. and P. peak hours as well as off peak hours. • The test car was traveling at the average speed of all vehicles. • The test car proceeds from east to west direction along the road.

To calculate vehicle speed, use the predetermined study area length and the elapsed time as recorded on the stopwatch data form. The formula is V = d / t unit in (km/hr.).
