I want a reliable pretty affordable good IFR Cross country plane that I'll feel comfortable flying to Florida or Sedona solo or with a buddy. Helps if you give us a starting point so we know what type of range we are talking about.

I consider my M20C a great cross country machine, it has an autopilot and modern gps, G5 instruments. It cost the better apart of $100k but has a run out engine and busted interior, and it can only do about 145kts.
The lowest price airplane I would consider at all suitable for the journey is a Malibu Jetprop at about double the cost. A single engine piston aircraft will simply not do that trip safely and reliably. You will be stranded for days waiting for weather windows or mechanical problems… or a statistic trying to overcome those by brute force.
