The Cabo Airport is a small private airport. SJD is north of San Jose del Cabo. There are bus services to La Paz from SJD, but I have only rented a car and driven. You can take a very expensive private transfer, if you want. Very expensive. Try Cielito Lindo or InsideLosCabos.
I have been both ways from Cabo to La Paz. the cortez side is beautiful but lots of curves. the Pacific side is nice also and a has less curves. try going down one way and coming back the other. the Pacific side is more remote and seemed to be a little cooler.
There are very comfortable buses that can take you all the way to La Paz and drop you off at the bus station which is in the heart of down town. From that same bus station you can get to the best beaches in La Paz. From the airport you can catch a public bus or suburcabo to the San Jose Bus station.

Flying to La Paz is possible but infrequent - and Aero California is grounded - and hopefully will stay so - they are considered unsafe by Mexican FAA and they are unreliable in service, known locally as very poor service.
