2 maj 2018 · Booked premium economy a couple months before officially rolled out on the 777-200 Trans Atlantic flights. This is roughly equivalent of early 1990s business class. American seats, especially the window/aisle (not the four middle seats) are very nice. Wide enough and very good recline without crowding folks behind you.
Looking at the specs, AA is pretty much industry standard though when it comes to that cabin. Personally, I would go for PE if it costs about 1.5X-2x that of economy. PE isn't just about legroom. It also gives you the wider seat so you always get your own armrest.
23 maj 2018 · There is a big difference in seats between economy and premium economy on American. Rather than 3+4+3 seating in economy, the seats are 2+3+2. We flew an Airbus 330 (former U.S. Airways plane). The seats are reasonably wide with good legroom and a simple (manual) adjustable footrest.
3 lip 2023 · Personally, I prefer AA's PE cabin with its leather seats and always book the window bulk head seat. You can generally exit that seat without disturbing your neighbour. In flight service maybe a little better on BA, but I still prefer AA.
AA does now have an actual Premium Economy class of service which is separate from MCE. You do get more legroom but the seats are wider and recline more too. The review linked in post 1 describes the differences, with pictures.
I think both carriers' seats have footrests (leg rests at the bulkhead) which can be good or bad depending on the configuration. The legrests on BA's 747 WT+ bulkhead seats were more an annoyance than helpful with the footrests on the other seats more beneficial, but only a little.
