It really depends on your finances. I flew premium economy on a 17 hour flight from LAX to Singapore a couple months ago (not UAL, but similar). It was definitely much better than regular economy, but my company was paying for the flight, not me. I thought it wasn't as good as domestic first class, which I've also done a few times.
