History. Origins. The Waterloo Helmet, c. 150 –50 BC, found in the River Thames. A surviving fragment of the London Wall, built around AD 200, close to Tower Hill. The Roman legions established a settlement known as "Londinium" on the current site of the City of London around AD 43.
