Check out Condor. They fly holiday travellers from their Frankfurt hub to various N American cities. They fill up their planes with N Americans flying the opposite direction. I flew YYZ-FRA for $700 return taxes in last summer. YYZ is of course Canadian, but Condor also flies out of BWI and various West Coast cities.

Cheapest we've ever found out of CLT was $270rt to either Barcelona or Copenhagen. In general the European gateways that we see the most cheap flights to these days are: Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, maaaaybe Zurich. Dublin and London also pop up a fair amount too.
