The 12-hour clock is a time convention in which the 24 hours of the day are divided into two periods: a.m. (from Latin ante meridiem, translating to "before midday") and p.m. (from Latin post meridiem, translating to "after midday").
In a 12-hour time format, the am is used in morning time and up just before midday. In other words, 12:00 am (midnight) up to 11:59 am (almost midday), we associate the end of hh:mm with am. Then, the proper way to write 12:00 noon is 12:00 pm.
