The Pescaria (fish market) and Erbaria (produce market), which combined make up the Rialto Market, have been located here since the 11th century. This is an exciting venue with which to mix with the local Venetians, and maybe purchase some fresh fruit to eat on a hot day.
Even more impressive for most tourists is the huge fish market (Pescheria) next to the fruit and vegetable market of Rialto. Fresh fish from the Adriatic is offered in all possible shapes, colours, sizes and price ranges. Besides fish, there are also seafood, crabs and the like (see picture below).

The "Pescaria" of Rialto, situated in the historical centre of Venice, overlooks the Canal Grande. It is an historical building that was always designated as commercial activity, thanks to the big covered loggia on the ground floor, which daily hosts the fish market.
