This publication is intended as guidance for the completion and submission of VFR and IFR Flight Plans (FPLs) and it will be updated and re-issued as necessary. It incorporates information previously issued by Aeronautical Information Circulars (AICs) on IFR and VFR Flight, as well as the latest instructions for North Atlantic (NAT) Flight Plans.
Use a #2 (soft tip) pencil and high-quality eraser on the navigation log. In the top-corner of your navigation log, draw a basic diagram of the airport runway(s) oriented for the way you plan to approach. Include runway numbers, arrows indicating traffic direction, and traffic pattern altitude(s).
It is also recommended to review and mark the route on a paper 1:500,000 or 1:250,000 scale VFR chart, to act as a backup and additional source of information for planning the flight.
