It's a small hotel on the "noble floor" of a 16th century palace, with lovely rooms, with some original frescoes, in a great location a few steps from the great Medici church of San Lorenzo, and the service is terrific. See: http://www.hotelburchianti.it. 3 full days in Florence.
Housekeeping is good, rooms comfortable (beds a little on the firm side for my daughter) and it is quiet. Breakfast is adequate (albeit a little unimaginative), owners and staff are great, It has hundreds of good reviews but it wont be for everyone and yes, it is used by solo travellers.

Pros. Fantastic, central location near Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Short walk to most major museums and sights plus restaurants and shops. Free buffet breakfast with eggs and hot chocolate for the kids. Family-friendly small hotel with personal customer service. Two quintuple rooms available for families.
