19 kwi 2018 · Investigative journalists and writers of the era who became known as “muckrakers” – including Upton Sinclair, Nelly Bly, Ray Stannard Baker and Lincoln Steffens – sought to inspire social change by exposing injustice and abuse in government and business.
Ray Stannard Baker was born in Michigan in 1870. He joined McClure's Magazine, where he worked with Lincoln Steffens and Ira Tarbell in the kind of investigative journalism that became known as muckraking. Baker himself was involved in exposing railroad and financial corruption.

The January 1903 issue of McClure was the start of the Muckraking era. Ida M. Tarbell, Lincoln Steffens and Ray Baker published three different stories in the same issue. In 1902 McClure had published another story called Tweed Days in St. Louie it is regarded as the first Muckraking article.
The very same issue comprised of famous muckraking works like "The Shame of Minneapolis" (Lincoln Steffens), “The History of Standard Oil” (Ida M. Tarbell), and "The Right to Work" (Ray Stannard Baker).
