A map showing the physical features of South America. The Andes mountain range dominates South America’s landscape. As the world’s longest mountain range, the Andes stretch from the northern part of the continent, where they begin in Venezuela and Colombia, to the southern tip of Chile and Argentina.
South America has an area of 17,840,000 km 2 or almost 11.98% of Earth's total land area. By land area, South America is the world's fourth largest continent after Asia, Africa, and North America. South America is almost twice as big as Europe by land area, and is marginally larger than Russia.
It is a large political map of South America that also shows many of the continent's physical features in color or shaded relief. Major lakes, rivers, cities, roads, country boundaries, coastlines and surrounding islands are all shown on the map.

South America is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean and finally North America and the Caribbean Sea on the northwest. The border between South America and North America is at the Darién Mountains watershed.
