Nicktoons was launched on May 1, 2002 as Nicktoons TV, originally a part of the digital cable-exclusive MTV Digital Suite. In keeping with the identity of its sister network, the channel's initial logo featured orange silhouettes of various Nickelodeon characters, such as SpongeBob SquarePants (pictured above).

Afterwards, TV static is shown, showing dark and zombified versions of multiple Nicktoon characters partaking in typical zombie actions.
