The awards and decorations of the United States Armed Forces include various medals, service ribbons, ribbon devices, and specific badges which recognize military service and personal accomplishments of members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Such awards are a means to outwardly display the highlights of a service member's career.
Together with military badges such awards provide an outward display of a service member's accomplishments. The first recognized medals of the U.S. Army appeared during the American Civil War and were generally issued by local commanders on an unofficial basis.

22 maj 2024 · The Bronze Star. Image: Wikipedia.org. The Bronze Star is awarded by the military to service members who have displayed heroism and valor, excluding aerial flight. Authorized in 1944 as a ground equivalent of the Air Medal, the Bronze Star can be presented for valor or meritorious service.

The miniature medals are a one-half scaled size of full size and are worn on casual clothes as well as all formal dress and dinner dress uniforms on the wearer’s left breast. Full size medals are worn on uniforms and dress wear on the left breast as well.
