How would you calculate the displacement of an object that decreases velocity then remains at a constant velocity? Especially if the graph crosses to underneath the time axis to negative velocity?

The triangle symbol Δ is the Greek capital letter delta. It is used in physics to represent the change in a variable. When placed before a variable ( y ) it refers to the difference between the final value ( y f ) and initial value ( y 0 ) of that variable. Δ y = y f − y 0 .
Displacement can be calculated by measuring the final distance away from a point, and then subtracting the initial distance. Displacement is key when determining velocity (which is also a vector). Velocity = displacement/time whereas speed is distance/time.

27 cze 2024 · The basic formula to calculate displacement is a reworking of the velocity formula: d = vt. Where d is displacement, v is average velocity, and t is the time period, or the time it took to get from point A to B. If the object has constant velocity, solving for displacement is straightforward.
