Great Circle Route. Project Franz Helfenstein The Great Circle Route is the shortest distance between two points on the globe's surface. Given the Longitude (M) and Latitude (L) of two such locations, the arc distance (s) can be found using this two stage formula. cos (θ) = sin L1 sin L2 + cos L1 cos L2 cos (M2 − M1)
Great circles are also useful in planning routes when travelling. I am one of these great circles that also divides the earth into two halves, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. I am an imaginary line around the middle of the earth.
The module is composed of 22 lessons; 8 days are reserved for administering the M id- and End-of-Module Assessments, returning the assessments, and remediating or providing further applications of the concepts.
Great Circle Map displays the shortest route between airports and calculates the distance. It draws geodesic flight paths on top of Google maps, so you can create your own route map.
