Unlike many countries, Germany also has minimum speed limits. On a six lane road – the minimum speed for the fast lane is 110 km/h, middle lane is 90 km/h, and slow lane is 60 km/h. If a car cannot maintain these speeds on flat ground, then they are not allowed on motorways in Germany.

While parts of the autobahns and many other freeway-style highways have posted limits up to 130 km/h (81 mph) based on accident experience, congestion and other factors, many rural sections have no general speed limit. Mandatory speed limits vary by vehicle type and weather conditions. ‘Limitless’ sections have advisory speeds, and caution is vital. Strict penalties are imposed for speeding and traffic violations.
27 maj 2024 · Around 70% of the Autobahn network has no speed limit (unless there is a temporary construction in place). On these stretches, the recommended speed is 130 km/h (80,8 mph). The fastest ever measured speed on an Autobahn under everyday conditions was 423,3 km/h (263 mph) in 2010.
