Hera doesn’t worry at all about trading the destruction of three whole cities for the destruction of Troy. Active Themes. Zeus, satisfied with Hera ’s offer, agrees to ensure Troy’s destruction. He orders Athena to fly down to the battlefield in order to provoke the Trojans into breaking the truce.
Book IV. ARGUMENT. THE BREACH OF THE TRUCE, AND THE FIRST BATTLE. The gods deliberate in council concerning the Trojan war: they agree upon the continuation of it, and Jupiter sends down Minerva to break the truce. She persuades Pandarus to aim an arrow at Menelaus, who is wounded, but cured by Machaon.
Summary. On Olympus, the gods argue over the war. Zeus suggests that the peace hold and Helen go home with Menelaus, both because Troy is his favorite city and to mock Hera's and Athena's passion for the death of Trojans.

Argument. The Acts of Diomed. Diomed, assisted by Pallas, performs wonders in this day’s battle. Pandarus wounds him with an arrow, but the goddess cures him, enables him to discern gods from mortals, and prohibits him from contending with any of the former, excepting Venus.
