The symmetry element associated with an inversion, is the inversion center, also called center of symmetry. It is a single point. When an inversion operation is performed, then each point of the object is moved through the inversion center to the other side.
A molecule has a center of symmetry when, for any atom in the molecule, an identical atom exists diametrically opposite this center an equal distance from it. In other words, a molecule has a center of symmetry when the points (x,y,z) and (−x,−y,−z) are identical.
