I don’t use cents per mile just compare the miles to the cash price; obviously that would give you cents per mile but I don’t think of it that way.

83 reviews. 84 helpful votes. 1. Re: airline miles. 10 years ago. IMO, air miles are great if you fly a lot anyway. Otherwise they tend to be a waste of time. Basically, you have to fly a lot - often on a higher priced ticket than you could get, in order to accumulate miles.

For many airlines, their frequent flyer programs are the most profitable parts of their operations, because so many are sold (principally to credit card companies who then re-sell them to customers) but never redeemed before they expire.
