I’ve only known military reserve pilots who fly airlines as their ‘main job’. But are there any (here or that you know) who hold regular office jobs and then fly military part time? If so, what’s the full time job and what equipment are you / they on?
If you are already an airline pilot and have a full time job, the guard/reserve could absolutely be a solid option for you. It’s all in what you are looking for! There are a million pros and cons but they are different for each person and their situation.

Here's a thought I have had lately, and I'd like to hear your opinions: After I finish my ph.d, take a year or two, join the Air Force Reserve and try to get a pilot position. (I think I will be fairly competitive).
