Premium economy is comparable to domestic recliner first, and with an economy meal and service. Business is lie-flat pods with a business class meal and beverages, plus lounge access on the ground. Both are a lot better than economy.

For me, it was absolutely worth the extra 10,000 miles I paid. Let me be clear — business class (and of course, first class) is still much better than premium economy.

Worth depends on how you value the comfort vs the extra money spent. I have flown a lot of PE's though on on AA itself. Looking at the specs, AA is pretty much industry standard though when it comes to that cabin.
