A Police Certificate is an official statement about you issued by An Garda Síochána. It is used by people who have lived in Ireland and want to work or study abroad. It is required by some foreign authorities. A Police Certificate states your: Name; Address; Date of birth; Criminal record in Ireland (this does not include adult cautions)
If you resided outside of Ireland, aged 18 or over for a period of time, six months or more (in total), you are required to submit a Police Certificate for that country. Please see below relevant information on 1) Statutory Declarations and 2) Police Certificates.
The Police Certificate is issued free of charge and will take approximately three weeks to process. A Police Certificate CANNOT be construed as Garda Vetting, a security clearance or a character reference. Garda vetting is not conducted for persons on an individual basis.
