You can use route maps to control the redistribution of routes between routing domains. Route maps match on the attributes of the routes to redistribute only those routes that pass the match criteria. The route map can also modify the route attributes during this redistribution using the set changes.
Route-maps are the "if-then" solution for Cisco devices. This lesson explains how route-maps check for match conditions and optionally set values.
You can use route maps for route redistribution or route filtering. Route maps can contain multiple match criteria and multiple set criteria. Configuring a route map for BGP triggers an automatic soft clear or refresh of BGP neighbor sessions.
