EDIT (the next morning): After R002 (I know that I could have deviated after R001), I calculated and set a rhumb line course to Frankfurt, then flew all night at full speed. It was only a few hundred nm longer than a GC route.
The Rhumb line is usually longer than GC distance but it will get you to same destination without making any other course change after you find and follow the Rhumb line path. I decided to give it a try and completely deviated from my flight path after I was cleared for R002.
The yellow-green path between the R waypoints is a straight line (a rhumb line) on a cylindrical map projection. That's why your heading changes even between waypoints, and that's also why you deviate from the yellow-green path even if you follow the magenta arrow precisely.

I understand using the rhumb line method is great for long trips even if it takes longer to arrive at your destination apposed to using the great circle route which the game uses for shortest distance to your destination. Not using the rhumb line requires course adjusting, especially between the R00 points.
