The Yorkshire Dales are a series of valleys, or dales, in the Pennines, an upland range in England. They are mostly located in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, but extend into Cumbria and Lancashire; they are entirely within the historic boundaries of Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a 2,178 km 2 (841 sq mi) national park in England which covers most of the Yorkshire Dales, the Howgill Fells, and the Orton Fells. The Nidderdale area of the Yorkshire Dales is not within the national park, and has instead been designated a national landscape .
The Dales Way runs for 80 miles from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere. This route follows mostly riverside paths, passing through the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the gentle foothills of southern Lakeland to the shore of England’s most famous lake, Lake Windermere.
