Create a simple route. Click the Editor menu on the Editor toolbar and click Start Editing. Using any available method, select the linear feature or features whose geometry you want to copy to make the route. For example, click the Edit tool on the Editor toolbar, move the pointer over a feature, and click the feature.

Creating routes using a tool. The following steps outline how you can create a new route feature class using the Create Routes geoprocessing tool. Click Geoprocessing > Search For Tools. Under System Toolboxes, click Linear Referencing Tools. Click the Create Routes tool.
