I don’t use cents per mile just compare the miles to the cash price; obviously that would give you cents per mile but I don’t think of it that way.

The actual air miles flown (BDL->DFW->SFO) are 2,930 but if I took a non-stop flight from BDL->SFO I would only earn 2,625 miles.
Calculate the driving distance between cities and flight time to figure out whether it's better to fly or drive.
