1 kwi 2024 · The Poas Volcano, one of the most visited volcanoes in Costa Rica, experienced a passive ash eruption on April 1, 2024, after showing signs of activity since March 29. The National Emergency Commission declared a green alert for six cantons due to ashfall and gas emissions.
It erupted most recently in June 2021. The volcano has many fumaroles and hot springs on its slopes. It is formed by felsic lava. Rincón de la Vieja is one of six active Costa Rican volcanoes: the others are Poás, Irazú, Miravalles, Arenal, and Turrialba. As of 2021, only Rincón de la Vieja, Turrialba and Poás are considered active.
8 sie 2023 · At 1655 on 5 August a phreatic eruption from three areas of the lake ejected sediment and steam 50-100 m above the lake. At least two eruptive pulses were seen. Fumarolic degassing and lake convection were visible during 2-8 August.
Irazú is the southernmost of the ten Quaternary volcanoes which form a northwest-trending line through central and northern Costa Rica. Radioactive dating has shown an age of at least 854,000 years with eruption peaks at 570,000 years and the most recent active phase from 136,000 years to present.
18 kwi 2023 · Rincón de la Vieja, the largest volcano in NW Costa Rica, is a remote volcanic complex in the Guanacaste Range. The volcano consists of an elongated, arcuate NW-SE-trending ridge constructed within the 15-km-wide early Pleistocene Guachipelín caldera, whose rim is exposed on the south side.
6 lut 2024 · At 0712 on 4 February a phreatic eruption produced a plume of steam, sediments, and water that rose 200 m. The report noted that small eruptive events were occurring at a rate of 20-25 events per hour before the 0712 event, ceased afterwards, and then resumed to a rate of about 20 events per hour.
