Since opening its doors in the fall of 2002, WALIPP has attended to middle school males enrolled in grades 6-8, providing them an authentic, enriched learning community that believes all students can learn and that, given the right guidance and preparation, all students can become their best selves.
The Lawson Academy, formerly WALIPP-TSU Preparatory Academy (WALIPP Prep), is a charter middle school in the Third Ward area of Houston, Texas. It was established as waves of single sex public schools opened in American inner city communities circa the 2000s.
In 1996 the Houston community honored him with the creation of a non-profit advocacy agency called WALIPP, the William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity. That agency established two single-gender middle schools, chartered by the Texas Education Agency.
Through a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum with on-going enrichment and support, students receive authentic hands-on learning experiences and opportunities as well as skills and careers training, for their total growth and progress.
