Theatre by the Lake is situated on the shores of Derwentwater in the Lake District in Keswick, Cumbria, England. It opened in 1999, replacing the mobile Century Theatre, and was made possible by an Arts Council Lottery Fund Grant.

27 lip 2023 · Named for its unique position near the shores of Derwentwater on the edge of Keswick, the Theatre sits amid the northern fells of the Lake District, a designated World Heritage Site.
History of the Theatre by the Lake. The 400 seat theatre replaces the ‘blue box’ Century Theatre, which had been in Keswick since 1975. Replacing the old Blue Box touring theatre with a permanent successor in Keswick, had been a dream for twenty years, and an Arts Council Lottery Fund Grant made this possible.
Theatre by the Lake has a setting on the shores of Derwentwater no other professional theatre in Britain can match. Each year it stages up to nine of its own productions of classic, modern and new plays on its two stages and has won multi-starred reviews from national critics.
As well as hosting visiting companies and touring work, Theatre by the Lake stages up to nine of its own productions of classic, modern and new plays throughout the year, culminating in a much-loved family Christmas show.
