7 maj 2022 · Responding to recent email scams, Shell sent a warning to Fuel Rewards members that the company is not involved in any email grants, awards, or lotteries. In the screenshot below from a Shell email, the company says the Fuel Rewards program is not offering a $500 sweepstakes gas card entry.
Be on the lookout for suspicious signs – e.g. communications from non-Shell e-mail addresses (e.g. from a yahoo.com address); poor use of English; and requests for money. If you receive a request to change banking details for payment to Shell, do not respond to the email, click any links in the email, or provide information over the telephone.
How the scam works. You see a post on social media, get an email, or take a survey that says you won a $500 gas station gift card. Currently, the scam claims to be from Shell, but watch out for scammers using different gas station brands too. To get the gift card, you only need to pay a small fee.
