3 cze 2019 · Known as "The People's Beach," Jacob Riis Beach is a popular beach for New York City residents as well as tourists visiting New York City and wanting to escape for a day in the sand. Located just to the west of the Rockaways, this slightly hidden beach is one of the least crowded in the city.
It features an extensive sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean coastline and several historic Art Deco structures. In 1912, the city, urged on by social journalist Jacob Riis, acquired the land for a park initially called Seaside Park and later Telawana Park. In 1914, the park was renamed for Riis.

Jacob Riis Park is located on the western end of the rockaways. This an NPS site, part of gateway national recreation area. If you’re looking for beach access, this is a good spot but not the greatest. If you drive up the rockaways to the Beach 60s, there’s tons of free parking and there’s direct access to the boardwalk and Rockaway beach.
