The Rhumb line is usually longer than GC distance but it will get you to same destination without making any other course change after you find and follow the Rhumb line path. I decided to give it a try and completely deviated from my flight path after I was cleared for R002.
Rhumb line mechanics update. I had a FRA-CUN route overnight and on a whim of curiosity set my heading for Cancun as soon as the screen refreshed after takeoff (rather than wait to get cleared to R002 which would have added another 200nm or so in the wrong direction). Perfect score upon landing.
For hub-to-hub flights, I take the rhumb line distance then subtract about 150 nm before I make my speed calculation. That gives me room to maneuver to (or back to) the last R WP without getting too close to the destination field and getting a failure for overflying the field.

A rhumb line intersects all meridians (lines of longitude) at the same angle. In other words, you follow it by flying a constant heading. The shortest distance between two points on a (nearly) spherical globe follows a great-circle route.
I’ve been using the Rhumb line method for a month now with no problems at all. Last night I activated this flight and adjusted the speed so I can find it in the morning. When I woke up, I changed the flight plan to manual WP as usual so i can reach the last ROX which is R015.
