I searched for some rhumb line site, plugged in the lat and long for the departure and arrival airports and it told me the heading to take and the distance. I didn't compare to Great circle but obviously longer distance.
The Rhumb line is usually longer than GC distance but it will get you to same destination without making any other course change after you find and follow the Rhumb line path. I decided to give it a try and completely deviated from my flight path after I was cleared for R002.
I understand using the rhumb line method is great for long trips even if it takes longer to arrive at your destination apposed to using the great circle route which the game uses for shortest distance to your destination. Not using the rhumb line requires course adjusting, especially between the R00 points.
