Eight-time gold-medallist Usain Bolt almost always lit up the track with his blistering pace, while the slow-burn 5000m and 10000m runs of four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah showcased the endurance of an athlete.

The current list comprises 23 events. Many of the discontinued events were similar to modern ones but at different lengths, especially in the steeplechasing, hurdling, and racewalking disciplines. Team racing events have been eliminated after appearing in six early editions of the Games.
Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. [1]
29 mar 2021 · The Tokyo Olympics track and field program will comprise 25 running events on the track (20 individual, five relays), 16 field events and two combined events (10-event decathlon, seven-event heptathlon) at Tokyo's Olympic Stadium, as well as three race-walking events and two marathon events at or near Sapporo's Odori Park on Hokkaido.
