Nunavut is a territory of Canada, inhabited predominantly by the Inuit and to a much smaller degree other members of the First Nations. Inuit folk music has long been based primarily off percussion, used in dance music, as well as vocals, including the famous Inuit throat singing tradition.

Motto. Nunavut sanginivut (Nunavut, our strength) Flag. The flag of Nunavut was granted by the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, Governor General of Canada, on April 1, 1999. It features the colours white, blue and gold, which symbolize the riches of the land, sea and sky. Red is a reference to Canada.
The motto, written in Inuktitut syllabary, is Nunavut Sannginivut (ᓄᓇᕗᑦ ᓴᙱᓂᕗᑦ, or, Our Land, Our Strength). The letters patent are quite unique, having been presented in English, French, Inuktitut , and Inuinnaqtun .
Our territory continues to nurture some of Canada’s most exciting artists, who creatively combine new sounds with traditional styles, drawing inspiration from this land and singing about their Arctic realities for all the world in both Inuktitut and English.
