The flag of Nunavut was granted by the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, Governor General of Canada, on April 1, 1999. It features the colours white, blue and gold, which symbolize the riches of the land, sea and sky.
1 kwi 1999 · The flag of Nunavut was officially adopted on April 1, 1999. The colours, blue and gold, symbolize the riches of the land, sea and sky. Red is a reference to Canada. The inuksuk (centered) symbolizes stone monuments which guide people on the land, and also marks sacred and other special places.
The motto, written in Inuktitut syllabary, is Nunavut Sannginivut (ᓄᓇᕗᑦ ᓴᙱᓂᕗᑦ, or, Our Land, Our Strength). The letters patent are quite unique, having been presented in English, French, Inuktitut , and Inuinnaqtun .

The compartment at the base is composed of land and sea and features three important species of Arctic wild flowers. The motto, in Inuktitut, NUNAVUT SANNGINIVUT means Nunavut, our strength. The Coat of Arms was designed by Andrew Qappik from Pangnirtung.
