Low cost carriers may have low base fares, but make a dummy booking with one to discover the full cost of a journey before booking automatically with the airline. Factor in, as mentioned above, the potential cost of travelling to or from an airport at a distance from your destination city.
Fares have been very low in general in the past few months but no one can tell you for sure if they will go higher. It might help to know from what airport you are flying as prices would change depending on traffic at your airport.

Several Christmas’ ago (BC-19) I found it cheaper to fly into the Scandinavian countries than into Europe. However, that flight also took 30 hours instead of 24 hours into Europe. So you really need to be looking for a bargain or need a reason to be in, say, Denmark (which thankfully I had).
