6 cze 2024 · This post focuses on Latin adjectives for beginners, so I will not cover every possible subtype or exception. Instead, I will discuss the two most important types of adjectives: 1st and 2nd declension adjectives (aka 2-1-2 adjectives) and 3rd declension adjectives.
1. The case endings of bonus,-a,-um are the same as those of 1st and 2nd declension nouns. (puella, servus and vīnum). 2. They are also the endings of past participles, future participles, gerundives, and of the superlative of adjectives (e.g. saevissimus,-a,-um = very harsh, the harshest). 3.
Adjectives in this category differ from each other depending on the number of endings they have. Some have three endings, one for each gender, like celer (masc.), celeris (fem.), celere (neut.), 'quick.' Some have two endings, one for masculine and feminine, and one for neuter as in nātūrālis (m&f), nātūrāle (n), 'legitimate.'
There are two types of regular Latin adjectives: first- and second-declension and third-declension. They are so-called because their forms are similar or identical to first- and second-declension and third-declension nouns, respectively. Latin adjectives also have comparative and superlative forms.
