17 maj 2024 · Here’s another method to insert a straight line on mac using character view. To open character view on mac, Press control + command + space bar. Select Edit and then click on Emoji and Symbols. At the top, Enter the vertical line in the search field. You will see the |, click on it and insert it.
You can type a straight vertical line, or "|," on most modern keyboards dating back to some of the 1980s IBM PCs. It's generally found above the backslash, so you can type a "|" by holding down the shift key and hitting the "" key.

This key is located on the far-right side of nearly all US QWERTY computer keyboards, immediately after the square bracket keys, and above the Enter key. The Pipe key is highlighted in yellow in the keyboard image below.
