25 sty 2024 · A flight level (FL) is a standard pressure altitude, expressed as three numbers. Aircraft flying on flight levels all measure their altitude from the same pressure setting, 1013.2 Hpa (or 29.92 InHg). This is based on the principle of something called the International Standard Atmosphere.
Flight levels use QNE or pressure altitude, while altitude references QNH or local pressure adjusted to sea level pressure. Altitudes are used at low levels and flight levels at higher levels. The transition between altitudes and flight levels differs by country and is generally just above the highest obstacle in that country.

A320, Twin engine narrow body short-haul flight and not the very least wide-body jet engine aircrafts like A380, A350, B747, B777 etc., can fly at even higher altitudes like FL300 to FL460.
To avoid mid-air collisions, aircraft fly at predefined altitudes known as flight levels. These flight levels are dependent on the atmospheric pressure and vary according to the weather conditions.
A Flight Level (FL) is the vertical distance of an aircraft above the ISOBARIC SURFACE of 1013.25hPa (hecto Pascal) or 29.92 in Hg (inches of Mercury). An ISOBARIC SURFACE is the invisible landscape that connects all points with the same atmospheric pressure.
