Consistent with Finn et al. (2003) and Blatchford et al. (2009), this study proposes a research model in Figure 1 suggesting how class size affects student learning and social behaviors, as well as learning outcomes. It includes perceived learning outcomes and satisfaction as additional educational outcomes.

Small class size is often used as an indicator of quality in higher education, and some research suggests that instructors in smaller classes more often use activities that are learner-centered and that involve physical and mental activity on the part of learners, such as group work, simulations, and case studies.
Two new indicators on how vocational education and training systems differ around the world and on upper secondary completion rate complement this topic. A specific chapter is dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goal 4, and investigates the quality and participation in secondary education.
These 127 studies analysed 55 different populations from 41 different countries. A large number of studies (45) analysed data from the Student Teacher Achievement Ratio (STAR) experiment which was for class size reduction in grade K-3 in the US in the eighties.
