If you and your spouse are applying to adopt a child – one of you must be a Singapore Citizen (SC) or both of you must be Permanent Residents (PRs). If you are applying to adopt a child as a sole applicant – you must be either a SC or PR. You and your spouse must be habitually resident in Singapore.
Adoption is a legal process where a party applies to become the adoptive parents of a child under 21 years old. If the court grants an adoption order, the adoptive parents will have legal rights, obligations and responsibilities over the child. The child will no longer have any legal ties with the biological parents.
If you wish to adopt a child in Singapore, you must be: a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, or hold an Employment Pass, Dependent’s Pass or any other Pass accepted by the Family Court; at least 25 years old; and. at least 21 years but not more than 50 years older than the child to be adopted.
