12 mar 2020 · Although both a parts list and a bill of materials contains information on the components used in a printed circuit board design, there are some important differences to be aware of. A parts list is a compilation of all of the components used in creating the PCB design.
A spare part is a part of your machine that has a probability of failing or becoming defective and needs to be changed to keep your machine running, like a sensor or a valve; it is also a part of your machine that is consumable or periodically changed like stretch rolls or slitting knives.
Spare parts lists are sometimes called “Bills of Materials” (or “BoM’s”) but for this article I will call them “Parts lists” because the term “Bill of Materials” implies that the list contains all parts for a piece of equipment, and may be confused with a list of materials for work orders.

The master parts list (or item master) is more than a list of uniquely numbered and named parts. It encompasses everything you need to know to order, build, receive, and qualify your parts — drawings, specifications, the approved manufacturers list (AML), and the approved vendors list (AVL).
