24 lis 2022 · Before your kid starts firing fastballs across the backyard, know that there's a certain way to measure the distance between the mound and home plate. It's actually quite easy. Pitching distance is measured from the front edge of the mound to the back point (also called the "apex") of home plate.
The backstop-to-home-plate should be a continuation of the field centerline from home plate to centerfield. Place a pin, stake, or marking flag where you want the point of home plate (apex) to be located.
The back tip of home plate must be 127 feet, 3 and 3/8 inches away from second base. The other bases must be 18-inch squares that are between 3 and 5 inches thick, covered by white canvas or rubber and filled with soft material.
Mound to home plate distance - The distance between the pitcher's plate and home base (the rear point of home plate) shall be 60 feet, 6 inches. Base paths/distance - The infield shall be a 90-foot square. When location of home base is determined, with a steel tape measure of 127 feet, 3 3/8 inches in desired direction to establish second base.
It is recommended that the line from home plate through the pitcher’s plate to second base run east-northeast. This line, using a steel tape or a strong tape or a cord, must measure 127 feet, 3-3/8 inches from the rear tip of home plate to the middle of second base.
